Written by Darren, The Colours of Missing You is an exquisitely illustrated book that helps both children and adults navigate the intricate emotions of grief. Inspired by Our CEO’s personal experience of losing his sister in 2022, and drawing on his expertise as a psychotherapist and leader in the death care industry, the book uniquely uses the colours of the rainbow to represent the non-linear stages of grief.
Each colour, from red for anger to blue for sadness and indigo for healing; invites readers to acknowledge and process their feelings without judgment. The book’s captivating visuals were brought to life by Shan Jiang, a Shanghai-born, London-based artist renowned for his collaborations with global brands like Nike and NASA.
“You can call this a children’s book for adults. I wrote this book for children, but it is also meant to help adults manage loss. We have all experienced loss of some form before, and in time, our children will experience it too. I hope this book will help all readers cope with the waves of strong emotions that come with loss.” – Darren Cheng

“Some books ask for pretty pictures. This one demanded the truth. The poem’s gentle yet powerful exploration of grief resonates across cultures and ages,” said Shan.
“Did my loss ever go away? No, and I wouldn’t want it to. It is a reminder of my love for her,” Darren added.
The Colours of Missing You is Darren’s fourth book in a growing series designed to support children through their emotions including grief, following “Where Did Grandpa Go?”, “I Remember Grandma” and “A Bowl Full of Ice-Cream.”
